Project AWARE Fish Identification Diver

The Project AWARE Fish Identification speciality provides divers with the knowledge to identify the fish species they are seeing on their dives, as well as an understanding of how to protect and conserve fish species.

During two scuba dives, you’ll learn:

  • How to identify characteristics of local fish families and species

  • Fish survey techniques and strategies

  • About Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life

The Project AWARE Fish Identification speciality can give you course credits towards your PADI Advanced Open Water SCUBA Diver certification, or be completed as a stand alone speciality.


Project AWARE Shark Conservation Diver

Sharks are crucial to marine ecosystems, yet sharks are in a global decline.

In the Project AWARE Shark Conservation Diver speciality you will learn about the importance of sharks in marine ecosystems, and what is causing the decline of shark populations.

During two scuba dives, you’ll learn:

  • How to identify different species of sharks

  • Why sharks are important to marine ecosystems

  • Threats to shark populations

  • About Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life

The Project AWARE Shark Conservation Diver speciality can give you course credits towards your PADI Advanced Open Water SCUBA Diver certification, or be completed as a stand alone speciality.


PADI Adaptive Support Diver

ConnectOcean is a strong advocate and key partner in providing access to divers with all abilities. The PADI Adaptive Support Diver speciality will improve your ability to become a better dive partner to a diver with a disability.

Through knowledge development and two diving workshops – one in confined water and one in open water – you’ll learn useful techniques that will provide you with the skills to assist a disabled diver, and gain insight and practical experience as you learn about:

  • Becoming more aware and mindful of individual considerations when diving with people with disabilities

  • Adaptive techniques that can be applied while diving with buddies with a disability


PADI Adaptive Techniques

ConnectOcean's sister organisation Sin Limites provides divers with disabilities or amputations a chance to experience the fascinating underwater world of our oceans while SCUBA diving. 

As a PADI professional, you are able to further develop your skills to become more aware of individual considerations when working with people who have physical or mental challenges.

The PADI Adaptive Techniques speciality teaches professional SCUBA divers adaptive teaching techniques to apply when training and diving with physically and mentally challenged divers.

The PADI Adaptive Techniques Specialty course will help PADI Professionals:

  • Become more aware and mindful of individual considerations when introducing people with disabilities to diving

  • Explore adaptive techniques that can be applied while supervising and training divers with disabilities in PADI courses and programs

  • Properly counsel and direct student divers, based on their abilities, towards PADI certification and PADI experience programs

  • Learn additional techniques to motivate and encourage student divers with disabilities

The course consists of knowledge development, two confined water skill development workshops and two open water workshops.
